Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease

Updated: Oct 24, 2022

What is LSVT? LSVT stands for Lee Silverman Voice Treatment. Great! But what does that mean for you? LSVT is a program for people with Parkinson’s Disease that helps those to overcome the movement disorders that can be associated with it. There are two different LSVT programs; LOUD, which focuses on improving the quality and amplitude of speech, and BIG, which focuses on improving the quality and amplitude of movements.

One of the biggest symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease is the mismatch between how a person perceives how they are moving and/or speaking and what is actually occurring. Often times a person with Parkinson’s Disease will produce movements that are too small or speak with a quiet voice while also experiencing tremors which can get in the way of performing everyday tasks. LSVT helps to teach a person how to produce BIGger movements and a LOUDer voice. Once you’ve mastered these techniques the certified therapist helps you to incorporate them into every day movements and routines.

At JTOPS we have therapists that are trained and certified in both LSVT LOUD and BIG. Give us a call today to learn more!
